Shea Butter

Shea butter is a solid oil extracted from the nut of a Karite tree.
Shea butter naturally contains Vitamin A and Vitamin E, but greatest of all - shea butter also consists of complex fatty acids. Free Spirit's shea butter is entirely organic and unrefined so as not to diminish any of its natural qualities. It is also fair traded.

* promotes quicker healing of small wounds, burns, cuts and scrapes.
* is an efficient natural makeup remover.
* is safe to use on babies, children and adults.
* helps prevent and soothe sunburns.
* is high in vitamins A and E.
* helps moisturize dry skin.
* soothes sore, overworked muscles.
* makes an excellent natural lip balm.
* helps restore elasticity of aging skin.

We use an unrefined organic shea butter in many of our products. When it is added to our olive oil soap it creates a rich thick lather. When we add shea butter to our moisturizers it adds all the wonderful qualities that are listed above. We also have an Unscented, Lavender,Solstice Breeze and a new Passion Flower Butters. You can also purchase raw shea butter by the ounce.

Calendula creams

Picture

the first things you see when you walk into a department store? Skin products and lots of them. Different manufacturers offer exotic creams crafted out of everything from somebody’s leftover placenta to the food off some poor bee’s plate. French and Swiss companies purveying little tubes with huge price tags, selling us a variety of salves, lotions, creams, ointments, and pomades to pour over our bodies’ delicate covering, our skin. And we buy, buy, and buy, shelling out millions of dollars each year for the privilege of dabbing fine ointments on ourselves.
Unbeknownst to you, the all-time best substance for the skin can be had by planting a single plant in your backyard. A cream made of this plant will make the most expensive skin ointment look like margarine. This epidermal wonder is a plant called calendula, known in herbalist circles as "mother of the skin." The extra-good news is that for one-quarter the price of that tube of fancy skin cream, you can put in an acre of the plant that will make your skin as smooth and clear as a baby’s behind. Of course, you won’t need that much – ten plants should do for a family of four. And unlike many of the expensive creams, calendula cream will actually make a big difference in the way your skin feels and looks.

We have been growing, harvesting and infusing our own oils since 1998. This amazing flower is in our base for all of our creams and moisturizers. It can be found in:

  • Lavender face and body cream
  • Ultimate foot cream
  • Smooth skin
  • Happy nappy baby cream
  • Timeless beauty cream
  • Olive oil soaps
  • Herbal hydration lotions

Calendula is truly the miracle worker for our skin, whether a person has lumps or bumps, scabs that won’t heal, eczema, athlete’s foot, acne, or even herpes sores. Perusing old herbals, the reader quickly discovers that calendula has been used to treat every skin condition ever dreamed up. It is an all-purpose skin-healing agent. Not surprisingly, wherever calendula grows, it is used to treat the skin. It has also worked well at healing skin damage caused from radiation treatments.
Not only is calendula a product with a universal endorsement, it has stood the test of time. We are talking about a track record of at least 1,000 years. Even more exciting, it is perfectly safe. Next time you take a walk through James Bay you will probably notice these beautiful yellow and orange flowers.

Hydrosols

Hydrosols, also known as floral waters or hydroflorates are products from steam distilling plant materials. Hydrosols are like essential oils but in far less of a concentration. When a distiller brews plant material with water in a large cooker the steam fills the pot and, as it rises, it causes the glands of the plants to burst and release the oils and essence of the plant into the steam. The oil rises through a condenser and collects in a separate vessel. This is what we know as essential oil, but what about all that fragrant water that was steamed with the original plant material? That is our hydrosol, or floral water.
Hydrosols are usually the result of essential oil production as a by-product but the highest quality hydrosols come from the devoted distillers who, with artist like precision steam the floral and plant material strictly to produce a hydrosol. (the hydrosols offered by Free Spirit Botanicals are produced in this fashion) Hydrosols contain all of the essence of the plant in every drop, just like essential oils but in a milder form; making them suitable for all manner of applications where essential oils would be too strong.
Noted author Jeanne Rose is quoted as saying.

"The best comes from a distillation where it is the hydrosol that is being produced rather than the essential oil. Often the best comes from the earliest part of the distillation rather than the body of the distillation. This usually smells bright and pleasantly fragrant. Although, some of the therapeutic part of the hydrosol is also produced at the very end of the distillation, and usually has a rather grassy or vegetative note. As the plants are being distilled, micro-particles of essential oil are in suspension, they give the aromatic distillate its scent and will separate out as the hydrosol cools. There is approximately .02% essential oil in hydrosol".Clinically, the chemical components in the hydrosol are primarily acids, which are hydrophilic (water-loving). Why do they work? Because they acidify the water or the product, which is beneficial to the skin or in the body. Thus the hydrosol acts as a healing anti-inflammatory and mild, but therapeutic antiseptic.

Scents to arouse the senses

When it comes to scents, men seem to enjoy more musky, sweet and slightly spicy smells. Never too strong or over powering. Nine years ago we created Mojo Magic, a scent men really gravitate to. At first our customers laughed at the name and bought it for the humour factor, soon after they were buying it because it got his (and her) MOJO going.  A blend of Lavender and Lime with a hint of Patchouli and Bay. Get his MOJO going.

The MOJO scent can be found in a pure essential oil blend, Luffah soap, Massage oil and Massage bar.

It can also be found in the mens aftershave, and Solstice Breeze lotion, try our votive Soy Wax Candles as well.

Aphrodite special scent

If Aphrodite the goddess of love wanted to create a scent, she would gather some of the most sensuous flowers she could find. She would then squeeze the essence from the flowers to produce a scent that would be worthy of the goddess of love.

Our store carries over 90 pure essential oils, from these oils we have chosen a few to create a blend called Aphrodite Goddess scent. We have taken Jasmine and Ylang Ylang and balanced them with a hint of Bergamot to create an aroma to evoke an aphrodisiac response. It has been so popular that we created a entire line around this blend.

Aphrodite Herbal Hydration Lotion

A light, fast absorbing moisturizer that is made with the nourishing oil of Hemp. Hemp oil is one of the few oils to contain all the omega acids. This makes it a natural choice for feeding the skin to keep it elastic and smooth. We use Grapefruit Seed extract as the natural preservative.

Massage oil and Massage bars

The gift of touch can be the theme for this years valentines day gift. Aphrodite  massage oil smells great and has a wonderful texture to massage with, it can  also be used as a bath oil. Body butter bars melt at skin temperature for a fun and sensual massage. Try one of our soy wax candles to make the night a special romantic evening.

Aphrodite Roll on.

Roll ons can be applied to the skin as you would a perfume, but with out the toxic ingredients that are found in perfumes.

Cleansing bar.

As with all of our cleansing bars this moisturizing soap is created for your face. It can remove make up, city grim and dead skin. Shea butter, Neem oil and French clay all help to deep clean and moisturize. This is one of the best cleansing bars for T-zone facial problems.
